mselect is looking to hire a Wells QA/QC Team Leader for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah, Iraq. Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of experience within a well operations team or quality function in the oil & gas industry. Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.
The role will be responsible for ensuring that all Wells activities comply with required quality standards, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. The position will lead and support quality assurance and quality control activities across drilling, completion, and well intervention operations, promoting continuous improvement, risk mitigation, and robust quality management throughout the well's lifecycle. The role will oversee the QA team and third-party inspection activities, both locally and internationally, ensuring that quality requirements are effectively addressed as operational demand increases. The position will involve a combination of office-based and field-based responsibilities, including travel to onshore rig locations and supplier workshops. Extended or non-standard working hours may be required during operational peaks.
Responsibilities
- Lead by example and drive positive change within the workforce, promoting stronger Quality and HSE practices
- Participate in Wells Management meetings and provide quality-related input and recommendations
- Manage the Non-Conformance Report (NCR) process, including investigation, corrective actions, and close-out
- Monitor and verify compliance with quality management systems, applicable standards, and procedures across drilling, completion, and well intervention operations
- Conduct inspections of well materials and equipment, including OCTG, packers, trees, wellheads, and related equipment, and prepare detailed inspection reports
- Conduct audits and assessments of service providers and rig contractors to verify compliance with quality requirements
- Collaborate with engineering and operational teams to implement best practices and proactively address quality issues
- Support the qualification, evaluation, and performance monitoring of suppliers and service providers
- Conduct failure investigations involving contractor equipment and provide quality support to operational teams as required
- Manage and supervise local third-party inspection contractors during Drill Stem and BHA inspections in accordance with applicable DS-1 Category 4 and 3–5 requirements
- Supervise third-party inspection and rig crew personnel when deployed to the field, including deck and rig-return inspections
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent, with proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Minimum 5 years of experience within a Wells Operations team or Quality function in the Oil & Gas industry
- Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), API Q1/Q2, ISO, or equivalent quality certification
- Strong knowledge of drilling, completions, and well intervention equipment
- Good knowledge of applicable international standards, including API, ISO, and ASME
- Knowledge of NDT processes and methods, including MPI, UT, LPI, and related techniques
- Working knowledge of DS-1 standards and requirements
- Familiarity with VAM TOP and other premium connection technologies
- Strong team player with self-motivation and the ability to work independently
- Computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Willingness to work at subcontractor facilities, drilling sites, and workover/rig sites across southern Iraq
Working hours
- Location: Southern Iraq, with a rotational field-camp-based position near Basrah
- Rotation: 28 days on/28 days off
