The Internal Audit Team Leader supervises activities related to the scope of the role within internal Sharia compliance oversight and audit, supporting the department’s objective of providing independent assurance on governance, internal controls, risk management, Sharia compliance, and the follow-up and resolution of audit findings. The role ensures the accuracy and quality of deliverables and services, as well as compliance with delegated authorities, policies, and the instructions and requirements of relevant regulatory authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Distribute tasks among team members, monitor worklists, pending cases, and priorities, and ensure a balanced workload.
  • Review the quality of deliverables and recurring errors, and take corrective actions within delegated authority.
  • Provide technical guidance and on-the-job training, handle escalated cases, and support less experienced employees.
  • Monitor team productivity, service levels, and quality, and prepare performance reports and observations.
  • Contribute to audit engagement planning by defining objectives, scope, risks, and required audit procedures and tests.
  • Perform audit tests, obtain sufficient and appropriate audit evidence, and document findings and conclusions in audit working papers.
  • Assess the design and effectiveness of internal controls, governance, and risk management within the scope of the audit engagement.
  • Review compliance with relevant Sharia controls and resolutions and document exceptions, where applicable.
  • Draft clear audit findings covering the condition, criteria, cause, impact, and recommendation, and discuss them with management.
  • Follow up on corrective action plans, verify supporting evidence for closure, and escalate delayed or unresolved cases.
  • Comply with the Bank’s policies and procedures and the requirements of relevant regulatory authorities, while maintaining the confidentiality of Bank, customer, and employee information.
  • Coordinate with relevant departments and units and provide required information within delegated authority to ensure timely completion of activities and resolution of dependencies.
  • Participate in improving procedures, systems, and controls, and submit recommendations that enhance efficiency and quality while reducing risks and errors.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Auditing, Finance, Information Technology (for IT Audit), or a related field relevant to the nature of the role. CIA/CISA certifications or specialized Sharia certifications, depending on the scope of the role, are considered an advantage.
  • Typically, 4–6 years of relevant experience, including experience in follow-up activities or technical supervision.
  • Proficiency in relevant systems and applications, analytical and problem-solving skills, accuracy and time management, report writing, communication and teamwork, confidentiality, and compliance with policies and controls. In addition, strong leadership, priority setting, performance management, decision-making, and stakeholder management skills are required.
