The Field Supervisor leads daily qualitative and quantitative data collection in Qadisiyyah for a research project on child labour, managing a team of four enumerators and ensuring data quality and child safeguarding standards. The position requires at least 3–5 years of field research experience and fluency in Arabic and English.

About the job

The Field Supervisor will oversee daily field-level qualitative and quantitative data collection activities in their assigned governorate for KOHRW’s baseline research on child labour. This role directly manages a dedicated field team and ensures all field activities adhere to strict ethical and child-safeguarding standards, ILO SIMPOC methodologies, digital data quality controls, and project timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and lead daily governorate-level research operations, managing a team of 4 gender-balanced enumerators.
  • Assign daily tasks and field routes targeting high-risk areas including brick kilns, construction sites, and vulnerable households.
  • Manage team logistics, field attendance, daily progress tracking, and site deployment schedules.
  • Support field enumerators in building rapport with community members, local authorities, facility owners, and vulnerable families.
  • Conduct interviews, Survey and FGDs when needed to complete the assigned task for the team
  • Supervise field administration of SIMPOC-aligned quantitative survey tools on KoboToolbox/ODK, household screening modules, and child surveys.
  • Facilitate, oversee and conduct qualitative fieldwork, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), case studies, and structured field observations.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance checks, including real-time Kobo checks, back-checks, and spot-checks to ensure complete and accurate data collection.
  • Submit regular daily logs and progress updates to the Data Project Coordinator.
  • Successful and timely completion of targeted quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews (FGDs/KIIs) in the assigned governorate.
  • High data quality compliance based on real-time Kobo checks, spot-checks, and back-checks with zero critical errors.
  • Full adherence to ethical standards, child safeguarding protocols, and safety guidelines.
  • Timely submission of daily logs, progress reports, and reliable field data.

Requirements

  • Strong leadership and team management skills in field operations.
  • Excellent communication, community engagement, and rapport-building skills with vulnerable populations.
  • High attention to detail and ability to enforce rigorous data quality checks.
  • Ability to work under pressure, manage logistics, and adhere to strict project timelines.
  • Full proficiency in Arabic and the local language of the target governorate (e.g., Kurdish in Erbil, or Arabic in Baghdad, Diyala, and other target governorates), along with good reading and writing skills in English.
  • Frequent travel and on-site presence within target districts and sub-districts across the assigned governorate (brick kilns, construction sites, and communities).
  • A Bachelor’s degree is preferred; a degree in Social Sciences, Sociology, Statistics, or a related field is an added advantage.
  • At least 3–5 years of practical experience conducting field research (quantitative and qualitative). Prior experience in child rights, child protection, or labor market studies in Iraq is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in using modern digital data collection tools (e.g., KoBoToolbox or ODK), along with the ability to implement quality assurance (QA/DQA) mechanisms and real-time field auditing (to support the field research team as needed during fieldwork).
  • A deep understanding and practical knowledge of applying child protection standards and informed consent/assent procedures, as well as adherence to International Labour Organization (ILO) guidelines and SIMPOC research protocols.
  • Excellent ability to lead and guide field teams (including managing field researchers) and to handle logistics and route planning in challenging or high-risk areas (such as brick kilns and construction sites).
