The Process Team Lead is responsible for leading and overseeing the Process Engineering discipline for thermal power plant projects, ensuring that the process design meets project requirements, applicable engineering standards, safety requirements, and operational objectives.
Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate Process Engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Review and approve process engineering deliverables, including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat and Material Balances, hydraulic calculations and studies, heat balance diagrams, equipment data sheets, operating and process design manuals, process calculations and technical reports.
- Review and approve Utility Flow Diagrams (UFDs) and Utility Distribution Diagrams (UDDs).
- Perform or review process simulations and develop basic process diagrams, including PFDs and heat/material balances.
- Ensure appropriate process equipment sizing and selection in accordance with project specifications and recognized industry practices.
- Provide accurate process engineering data and technical input to other engineering disciplines.
- Apply relevant process engineering principles and practices applicable to thermal power plant systems.
- Coordinate process design interfaces between major plant systems and other engineering disciplines.
- Lead and coordinate the Process Engineering team and allocate work according to project priorities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior and senior process engineers.
- Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure effective multidisciplinary integration.
- Support the construction team during the construction phase.
- Support the procurement team by providing process information and reviewing relevant technical documentation.
- Review vendor documentation and technical submissions where required.
- Provide Process Engineering support during pre-commissioning and commissioning activities.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of process-related issues during commissioning and startup.
- Participate in commissioning, performance testing, and handover activities as required.
- Participate in HAZOP, HAZID, SIL studies, 3D model reviews, design reviews, and operability and constructability reviews.
- Attend weekly project meetings and additional technical meetings as required.
- Prepare periodic progress, activity, and achievement reports for the direct supervisor.
- Identify Process Engineering manpower requirements in coordination with project management and HR.
- Identify training and development needs of Process Engineering team members.
- Monitor the performance and workload of Process Engineering team members.
- Conduct or contribute to performance appraisals and recommend appropriate development actions.
- Manage employee leave and other administrative matters within the Process Engineering team.
- Perform other duties assigned by the direct manager within the scope of the role.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 10–12 years of relevant Process Engineering experience.
- Significant experience in thermal power plant projects is mandatory.
- Proven experience in power plant process design and/or plant operations.
- Previous experience in a Process Team Lead, Lead Process Engineer, Senior Process Engineer, or equivalent senior technical role is required.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating Process Engineering activities across multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience supporting projects through engineering, procurement, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, and handover is highly desirable.
- Candidates should demonstrate practical experience in thermal power plant process engineering, process design and engineering, PFD and P&ID development and review, Heat and Material Balance, hydraulic calculations and studies, process simulation, process equipment sizing and selection, process safety engineering, utility systems and process interfaces, engineering design review and technical documentation, construction and commissioning support, and multidisciplinary engineering coordination.

- Relevant thermal power plant experience – Mandatory.
- 10–12+ years of relevant Process Engineering experience.
- Previous senior/lead-level Process Engineering experience.
- Strong knowledge of thermal power plant process design and engineering.
- Experience supporting construction, commissioning, startup, and handover.
- Proficiency in relevant process engineering software.
