mselect is looking to hire a South Rumaila Production Optimisation Team Leader for an international oil and gas operator in Basrah, Iraq.

The Production Optimisation Team Leader will lead the safe, efficient, and optimised delivery of production across the Degassing Stations, ensuring operations remain within approved Safe Operating Limits and production targets. The role will provide technical leadership to Production and Wells Optimisation Engineers and coordinate with Operations, Subsurface, Well Services, and other stakeholders to optimise station capacity, slot allocation, and DGS manifold performance. The position will monitor production performance, identify constraints and debottlenecking opportunities, and support Brownfield and Greenfield projects, TARs, Pitstops, and shutdowns. The role will also coach and develop the optimisation team, promoting strong technical capability and consistent optimisation practices.

  • Lead Production Optimisation: Spearhead the development and implementation of innovative production optimisation strategies to maximise recovery from existing producing wells and support future field developments
  • Provide technical leadership in managing New Oil Delivery (NOL) projects, Natural Flowing (NF) wells, and Electric Submersible Pump (ESP) wells, ensuring sustainable long-term production
  • Operational Excellence & HSE Leadership: Promotes a culture of open safety reporting and continuous improvement. Leads operations to ensure safe and reliable execution of production activities and deliver the company’s HSE, production/injection and crude/water quality targets
  • Define and enforce robust start-up, shutdown, and operational procedures for wells, ensuring safe and efficient execution aligned with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards. Supervise daily production monitoring, identifying bottlenecks and implementing corrective measures to maximise production efficiency and minimise unplanned downtime. This includes providing shutdown/restart plans and procedures for pit stops, train SD or Full SD
  • Optimise field infrastructure utilisation by managing well routing through flexible flowlines, Field Station Manifolds (FSMs), and trunk lines. Provide technical expertise in addressing well loading challenges to sustain flow assurance and facility reliability (no overloading of train or flex line, etc)
  • Production Assurance & Reliability: Guarantee continuous and efficient production from natural flowing and ESP wells, including Mainpay, Mishrif, 4th Pay, and Nahr Umr reservoirs. Manage complex well environments such as high H?S and high water cut wells, implementing mitigation strategies to minimise risks, maintain asset integrity, and optimise hydrocarbon recovery
  • Providing timely, technically sound EQs and MOCs, ensuring process safety and reliability considerations are fully addressed
  • Closing out assigned MOCs, EQs, and ORA actions to ensure that they are compliant and on time
  • Contributing as technical lead or participant in Operational Risk Assessments (ORA), HAZOP, and LOPA reviews, Pre-start-up Safety Review (PHSSR), RCFA, What-If-Risk Assessment, to evaluate design and operational safeguards
  • Proactive reporting culture for incidents, near misses, and unsafe acts; ensures proper follow-up, investigation, and closure of action items
  • Acting as Technical Lead for the Process Optimisation Team, mentoring peers across departments on process Optimisation troubleshooting and strategy, while also managing direct reports
  • Deliver guidance on well activities, including N2 lifting operations, acid stimulation, and flowback systems, with a focus on enhancing flowback efficiency and optimising production practices without compromising facility safety
  • Leading/representing SR/NR DGs in daily production meetings with other stakeholders
  • Coaching junior and mid-level engineers in well evaluation and field performance monitoring by applying material balance principles and leveraging production and network modelling tools, such as Power BI, trends, Pipesim, IVM (Integrated Visualisation Management), and Pi Vision
  • Supervising the team of Optimisation Engineers and providing guidance to junior and mid-level engineers in process optimisation and data analytics. Facilitated one-on-one coaching and realignment of responsibilities, resulting in improved accountability and initiative
  • Introducing succession plans by pairing senior engineers with potential successors under mentoring and knowledge transfer sessions
  • Driving plant efficiency and maximising online production through optimising well line-up and train throughput.
  • Implementing process monitoring dashboards (e.g. Train Optimisation Report, Capacity/Throughput Safe Operating Limits (SOL), Well Line-up, SR Flexlines) to track overall production and train balancing
  • Enforcing compliance with plant design and operational envelopes via Power BI visual management tools (Safe Operating Limit charts) to support real-time operator awareness and control
  • Supporting/input to debottlenecking studies, multiple EQs, MOCs, SORs and plant trials
  • Coordinating multidisciplinary teams (Operations, Maintenance, Inspection, Site Teams) to plan PoF 8 Flowlines strategy to reduce operational risk whilst maintaining production and free-up slots by disconnection of redundant wells. This includes twinning of wells or re-routing wells to nearest FSMs, MWP or stations
  • Calculates and communicates production losses and impacts associated with facility issues and shutdowns to senior management, supporting informed decision-making
  • Demonstrates strong operational foresight and decision-making under changing process conditions
  • Identifies key operational priorities and communicates performance insights effectively to stakeholders
  • CAM for contracts as per business requirements about production and optimisation efficiency

المتطلبات

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Subsurface Engineering, Production Engineering, Engineering Management, or a related discipline
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the oil, gas, or petrochemical industry, with extensive exposure to upstream or downstream production operations, process engineering, and performance optimisation
  • Have a background in Process, Production, Subsurface, Water, or Facilities Engineering, with proven experience in process monitoring and optimisation
  • Minimum 3–8 years of experience in supervisory or team leadership roles, managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a must.
  • Previous experience in asset engineering or operations engineering roles
  • Practical and operational exposure to production facilities
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills
  • Proactive approach with a strong focus on achieving results
  • Excellent IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, document management systems, and applications for Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Change Management
  • Professional accreditation, such as Chartered Engineer or equivalent, is preferred but not essential
  • Management of Change (MoC)
  • Process Safety and Integrity Management (PSIM)
  • Operational Risk Assessment (ORA) and SORA
  • HAZOP and hazard assessment
  • Incident and event reporting, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA)
  • Mentoring and development of engineers and operators
